Description
Frithuric is a novel narrated by a 17th-century German nobleman who is tricked into becoming a djinn — bound to a lamp, compelled to grant wishes for four centuries, watching humanity's greed and imprecision destroy itself one wish at a time. The story follows the lamp from the Thirty Years War through the courts of Europe, the abolitionist movement, Gilded Age Pittsburgh, the Western Front, Nixon's White House, the San Fernando Valley, and finally a studio apartment in Anaheim, where a young woman from Disneyland asks him a question no one has ever asked:
Are you okay?
